If your barking dog seems to be ‘barking at nothing’ or just talking to a neighbor’s dog in the distance, ask your dog in a nice way, to stop barking. It’s that simple.
Feeling frustrated and yelling at your dog to shut up will only amp up your
dog’s barking in response to your excitation.
Urging your dog in the same kind way you would ask someone next to you in a theater, to stop talking, will keep the offender’s self-esteem in tact, as well as yielding your desired result.
Animals shouldn’t have to feel shamed anymore than we should.
Non-violent communication with animals is as effective on their behavior as compassionate communication is with humans. It works with my clients’ dogs.
It works with my canine friend. It works with me.
