Your cat.
Your dog.
Your gerbil.
Animals we call our pets, are not our pets. They are our partners.
We do not own the animals we bring home to live with us.
We are not their guardians, either.
They are not children.
At least not ours.
Who are some of us to think we are more evolved, know more than they?
When we think about it with our hearts and minds also in equal partnership, aren’t we more like partners with our so called ‘pets’, in evolution? In laughing. in crying. in playing. in working. in praying. in dreaming. in scheming. in learning. in loving.
It’s so hard to see animals for who they are. To let go of control of their lives.
Oscar Wild said something I will never forget:
“Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.”
Sometimes, it’s still hard work for me to practice what I preach.
